OTEKO HAS STARTED COMMISSIONING ITS OWN FREIGHT CAR REPAIR FACILITY

OTEKO, the operator of marine terminals in the port of Taman, is actively developing infrastructure and improving logistics processes. The company’s new project will be a modern facility of current uncoupling repair of freight cars (CURF) at Panagia station. This facility will allow for repairs of up to 80% of cars with identified faults directly at the port, which shall significantly reduce maintenance times and network load.

The new repair facility shall be a modern process facility, including four railway tracks for car repair, as well as a separate yard for accumulating wheelsets with a capacity of up to 200 units. The total capacity of the current uncoupling repair facility shall be 95 cars; and it will be able to simultaneously repair up to 15 cars of various operators and rolling stock owners that arrived at the port. The monthly capacity shall be 600-700 units. Previously, out-of-service cars were being grouped and sent to an external facility, which took up to two weeks. Now, the repair time shall be reduced to 1-3 days thanks to the current uncoupling repair facility. This solution will optimize processes and reduce occupancy of non-common tracks for cars awaiting repair.

The maintenance bay shall be located in the area of the Panagia station automated hump yard and shall meet all technical requirements of JSCO “RZD”. The facility will perform repair work within the scope as per TR-1 and TR-2 regulations. For this, OTEKO has entered into an agreement with a specialized contractor that will perform all the necessary work.

“Commissioning of a freight car repair facility will reduce the track occupancy at the Panagia station with cars awaiting shipment and relieve our partner, JSCO ‘RZD’, of the burden of sending the out-of-service cars to other enterprises. Also, the time spent on our tracks will be reduced for the car owner or lessee. The cars will not accumulate while waiting to be sent for repairs, but will immediately leave repaired in formed trains for loading,” said Andrey Slyusarenko, Head of the OTEKO Rolling Stock Service.

The main construction works on the current uncoupling repair facility have already been completed: more than 5,200 meters of tracks have been laid, 7 turnouts have been laid, a repair and assembly site with two 10-ton gantry cranes have been built, an open spare parts storage area and a wheelsets accumulation yard with a 5-ton gantry crane have been equipped.

At the moment, work is being completed on the electrical installation of outdoor lighting, installation of signaling and communication systems (CIS), as well as the construction of an access road to the car repair site.

The facility is more than 90% ready, commissioning works are underway. The new current uncoupling repair facility will become an important element of the Taman port infrastructure and will allow OTEKO to significantly increase the efficiency of freight car servicing.
