OTEKO, a marine terminal operator at the port of Taman, is progressing actively on construction of the world’s largest stockyard of mineral fertilizers. The new facility is rated to store up to 300 kt of product and will assure an annual transshipment output up to 5 MT.
As of today, construction works are completed to 85%. The installation of process equipment, steel structures is currently in progress, as well as installation of roofing and floor underlay for product storage. The commissioning of a conveyor gallery and assembly of conveyor structures are under completion.
“Starting from April, we are starting installation of cable support systems, cable trays and process equipment. We are also about to complete jacketing the stockyard with sandwich panels and installation of roofing materials,” said acting Director for “Mineral Fertilizers” Project, Alexander Rakita.
The stockyard is divided into 10 boxes with a capacity of 30 kt each, which enables simultaneous storage of up to 7 various types of mineral fertilizers including urea, ammophos, sulphoammophos and other types of products in demand in the agriculture sector. Two semi-portal reclaimers are provided at the stockyard for the fertilizers discharge so as to feed the product to the conveyor belt and load it onto a ship.
“We are striving to become the largest mineral fertilizers transshipment port in the South of Russia. Our project is to both increase the region’s export potential and to open up new possibilities for our partners. We reached agreements with a number of cargo shippers, which is proof that the new stockyard is in high demand,” noted Head of" Sulphur and Mineral Fertilizers" Complex of OTEKO’s bulk cargo terminal, Victor Manushev.
The railcars discharge station shall be another key process feature of the mineral fertilizers complex. It will enable discharge of up to 8 railcars via 2 parallel lines, which makes it possible to handle simultaneously two types of products. The modern dust suppression system and cascade chutes will guarantee dust free and safe storage and transshipment of fertilizers.

In 2023, OTEKO commissioned the world’s largest indoor sulphur stockyard with a design storage capacity of 300 kt and an annual output of sulphur export of up to 5 mln tons via the port of Taman. Its surface area is 2.5 thous. m2. The stockyard is 1 km away from the waters’ edge near the coastal protection zone. The premises are divided into 2 parts with separate zones for the sulphur storage. The stockyard is equipped with state-of-the art industrial and environmental safety systems. This is a closed sulphur transshipment system. The Sulphur tippler located in a separate closed room makes it possible to discharge up to 480 railcars per day or 33 kt of product.
