Experts of the National Eco-Award noted OTEKO's achievements in environmental protection

The project “OTEKO Comprehensive measures to implement dust suppression technologies in the port of Taman” took third place in the nomination “Eco-Environmental Enterprise” of the National Environmental Award. The award ceremony, established by the “Komsomolskaya Pravda” media group, made the news in Moscow on December 8.

Over the past three years, OTEKO (marine terminal operator in the port of Taman) has spent as much as 1 billion rubles on introducing dust suppression technologies. Thanks to these and other measures the company uses when transporting and storing cargo, the content of harmful substances in sea water, soil, and atmospheric air on the border of the sanitary protection zone of the marine terminals is significantly lower than the maximum permissible concentrations. The jury of the National Environmental Award especially noted this fact when studying the project and implementation results.

OTEKO applies dust suppression technologies at all stages of transshipment — from the arrival of coal cars at the unloading stage, where dust is settled by water mist, to loading into the vessel hold, when the cargo is moistened with special devices on the booms of ship-loading machines. A 25-meter-high dust screen installed around the perimeter of the coal yards reduces wind speed and prevents dusting. 72 water sprinkler cannons moisten the top layer of the pile. Working together, these technologies minimize dusting.

Aleksandr Pivikov, Director of Production Safety at OTEKO, received the National Environmental Award diploma. In his speech he noted: “We thank the organizers for this award, for their caring attitude to the subject of ecology. We are proud that we took the third place among so many participants, whose efforts to protect the environment are also noteworthy. We will continue to develop Taman, not only for ourselves and those who live there today, but also for future generations.

The expert council of the eco-award established by Komsomolskaya Pravda media group included representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, the Russian Ecological Movement, and other organizations.

It should be noted that in November the project “Complex measures to minimize the impact of coal dust on the environment during transportation and storage” has already brought the company one award — the all-Russian award “Reliable Partner — Ecology”.
